Lovely homestay on a shared property

Aspectos positivos: The room is quite lovely, just as in the pictures, and very clean, plenty of towels and pillows and a well-equipped kitchen, dining table, outdoor patio chairs. The owner is very friendly and helpful—picked me up from the airport, helped me use the washing machine, offered a teapot and fruit to welcome me. She’s always available for questions and any little things that come up, really makes you feel at home. It was also very convenient to use their motorbike, which is reasonably priced and in okay condition. The location is excellent, easily walkable to the beach and shops/restaurants in La Punta (down a small hill), yet far enough away that it’s quiet at night away from the noise of night life.

Aspectos negativos: When I booked the room, I wasn’t aware that it’s actually just a single room rented out on the owner’s property, and not an actual hotel or multi-room space—there are no other guests. You’re sharing the property (entrance gate and yard) with the owner and family. It all worked out fine, it just wasn’t the kind of “privacy” I was expecting. They are also starting some repairs and additions to the house so there’s some activity around the property. I was very surprised there is no cleaning service offered (I booked for 2 weeks!), since this is a standard service for the dozens of accommodation I’ve arranged through Booking.com, and certainly I expected it to be included given the rate I paid (nearly $100 USD per night). Also, there is no “sea view” as advertised—you’ll see the chain link gate and a dirt road leading down to the beach outside your door/patio. A few little things — curtains are not blackout, hot water doesn’t last long in the shower, there’s no door handle on the sliding glass entrance so it’s a bit difficult to open, there are some tiny ants in the house and mosquitos outside at night, and you’ll need to stock up on water (a few bottles provided on arrival). Also the WiFi was a bit unstable for Zoom calls.

Aspectos positivos: The location was perfect and the studio is very spacious, super comfortable and well equipped. I had air con, constant hot water and Laura the host is super kind and helpful. As a sole traveler I felt safe and relaxed - highly recommend! :-)
